The Local SEO Checklist for Nashville Businesses

Local search is the cheapest qualified demand most Nashville businesses can get. It is also where the most obvious mistakes live. Before we recommend a single dollar of ad spend, we run this checklist.

1. Fix your Google Business Profile first

Your profile drives map pack placement, and the map pack sits above the organic results on nearly every local query. Claim it, then make it complete.

  • Exact business name — no keyword stuffing, which risks suspension
  • Primary category that matches your highest-value service, plus accurate secondary categories
  • Service areas set to the cities you actually serve, not a 100-mile radius
  • Hours, holiday hours, phone number, and a link to a relevant page rather than the homepage
  • Photos added monthly — profiles with fresh photos consistently outperform static ones

2. Build one page per service, not one page for everything

A single 'Services' page cannot rank for six different searches. Each core service needs its own page with its own title, description, body copy, proof, and call to action. If you serve multiple cities, the same logic applies to location pages — as long as each one has genuinely different content.

3. Make reviews a system, not an afterthought

Review count, recency, and response rate all influence local rankings, and they influence conversion even more. Ask every satisfied customer, ask within 24 hours of the work being done, and reply to every review — positive or not.

4. Clean up your citations

Your name, address, and phone number should be byte-identical everywhere they appear: Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, industry directories, and your own site footer. Conflicting data makes search engines less confident about which listing to trust.

5. Get the technical basics right

  • One canonical hostname — pick www or non-www and 301 redirect the other
  • LocalBusiness structured data with your real phone, address, and service area
  • A sitemap that lists every indexable page, submitted in Google Search Console
  • Mobile page load under about two seconds, since most local searches happen on a phone
  • Click-to-call links in the header and footer on mobile

6. Track what a lead is actually worth

Form fills and calls should flow into one place where you can see the source. Without that, local SEO becomes a faith exercise. With it, you know which pages and which cities deserve more investment.

Work through this list in order. Most businesses see movement from the first three items before they ever touch link building.
